This Week at St. James - May 7 - 11, 2018

Today, Sunday, May 6, marks the beginning of Catholic Education Week. This year’s Catholic Education Week theme is “Renewing the Promise.”

The theme for CEW 2018 draws upon previous documents on Ontario Catholic education, namely, “This Moment of Promise” (1989), “Fulfilling the Promise” (1993) and “Our Catholic Schools” (2006-2007). These three documents, while several years apart from each other, all speak of the unique mission of Ontario Catholic education, the importance of its shared leadership by all those involved in Catholic education and the critical role of Catholic education in contemporary society.

Catholic Education Week 2018 combines the themes of reconciliation, solidarity, love, justice and ecology.

There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week:

 

Day 1:             Remembering the Promise/Faire mémoire de la promesse

Day 2:             The Promise is Within You/La promesse est en toi

Day 3:             Praying the Promise/Prier la promesse

Day 4:             Living the Promise/Vivre la promesse

Day 5:             Proclaiming the Promise/Annoncer la promesse

Every year, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) provides our Catholic schools with a resource kit to help schools prepare for Catholic Education Week. Using these resources as well as our own developed activities, we have prepared a series of activities which will highlight how our school is Renewing the Promise.

Here is a quick look at what is happening at St. James for the week of May 7, 2018.

MONDAY -
  • Hot Lunch - Pizza

TUESDAY - 

  • Lunches Made Easy - Pancakes/French Toast

  • Popcorn Day, $1.00 for a bag of popcorn

  • Grade 8 Trip to Blue Jay Game

WEDNESDAY - 

  • Kindergarten Information Night @ 6:30 p.m.

THURSDAY -  

  • Lunches Made Easy  - Chicken

  • St. James Track Meet for Grades 4 - 8   

FRIDAY-

  • Catholic Education Week Liturgy at St. James Church @ 9:30 a.m.
  • Volunteer Social at 11:30 a.m. in school gym

Sunday, May 13 -Mother's Day -Confirmation Mass @12:00 p.m. at St. James Chruch Monday, May 14 -Fun With Fractions Day for students in Ms. Vitale's, Ms. Pellegrio's, Ms. Skinner's, Mr. Lucente's, Ms. Bourgon's, and Ms. Traverse's classes. Tuesday, May 15 -St. James Track Meet Rain Date Wednesday. May 16-Boys’ Softball Tournament Thursday. May 17 -Girls’ Softball Tournament -St. James Walk for Social Justice Friday. May 18 -Softball rain date -Grade 4 Bible Presentation @ 9:30 a.m. in library

Additional Information: A message from our Catholic School Community Council - Save the Date - Wednesday, June 13, 2018. St. James Catholic School will be hosting a Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction for our Spring Fundraiser. Invitations and information about the Silent Auction went home with students this past Friday. Please RSVP by Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Items for the Silent Auction can be sent to school until Friday, May 25, 2018.
