Principal's Message

Welcome to St. James Catholic School!

I am very humbled and honoured to be the Principal of this amazing school.

I have served in Catholic Education for 20 years, most recently I was the Principal of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic Virtual Elementary School. I am a father of 11-year old twins, a boy and a girl. Through my personal and professional experiences, I have come to really appreciate and understand the importance of ensuring positive relationships between Church, school and home.

As a Catholic school leader, I pride myself in my ability to develop and nurture positive and meaningful relationships with all members of the school community. These relationships are anchored in our Catholic values, mutual trust and respect. They help to ensure a learning environment rich in opportunities which allows all students to thrive.

I am very proud to be leading the St. James Catholic School community, a community rich in tradition. We are fortunate and blessed to work, learn and live in such a caring community. We have dedicated and talented staff working in a historic building surrounded by natural beauty.

Our Mission Statement reads:

I will create PEACE in our world today.

I will celebrate my faith in all that I do and say.

I will reach out to others with kindness, caring and respect.

I will value what I have and what others have.

I will help those in need or sad or lonely.

I will solve problems peacefully.

I will encourage good deeds.

I will be kind and good just as Jesus made me.

I will be the best I can be.

I am a peacemaker and a peacekeeper today, tomorrow and forever.

This is my pledge; this is my promise.

We will strive to develop children who will become responsible citizens, who give witness to Catholic social teachings by identifying their God-given gifts, and becoming self-directed, responsible lifelong learners.

If you are contemplating whether or not to register your child at our school, I invite you to call the school and/or visit for more information around the registration process.

If you are currently a member of our school community, I invite you to bookmark our website and ensure your email is on file at the school so you receive important school news right in your inbox. We are also live on Twitter @SMCDSB_SJA, follow us for updates and everything SJA!

May God continue to keep you and your family safe and healthy.

God bless,

Mr. Mauro Porco
